Our show is coming up in two weeks.  Would I have time to switch them over?  And how do you go about that process? I don't won't them to come off feed.

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Show shakes

Our show is fast approaching and I wanted to get some advise about Show shakes.  I bought some in the past and drenched our lambs at shows.  However, our show that is coming up soon does not allow drenching?  Any advice on what to do? Can you just sprinkle it over their feed and if so, does it work as well?  Does anyone else have any suggestions on something else to use?  Please help.

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Melatonin
« on: September 24, 2017, 05:41:45 pm »
Hello Crystal,
I've seen a previous post you posted regarding Melatonin.  My daughter has a "crazy" lamb that she will be showing soon.  She has worked this lamb daily and will continue to right up to the show.  I wanted to have a backup plan in case the lamb doesn't improve in the next few weeks.  I need some more information regarding the Melatonin?  Do you use the over the counter Melatonin that people use?  The pill form?   If so, there is several different milligrams?  Which do I buy and if it is based on their weight, how do I determine how much to give? Will the lamb just swallow it?  And how soon prior to the show do you give it?  Also, the lambs may be drug tested, will this pass?  Sorry for so many questions?
Thanks for your help.

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Sheep stand
« on: August 31, 2017, 08:58:10 am »
Does anyone know where I can purchase a stand that keeps lambs from moving?  I currently have a stand that we use for shearing but I'm looking the stand that has enclosed sides along with clips for the halter to train lamb to stand still. I've seen them before but don't know the name of the stand so I can't find it online.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Electrolytes

What is a good electrolyte to mix in lambs water bucket each day?  Trying to keep the lambs hydrated since it is so hot.  Someone suggested gatorade mix?  Just wondering if anyone has any ideas?

We started using the Gail Christian drench today for our lambs.  We feed 3 times a day. (early am, lunch, night)
Since we've been dry feeding we decided to try drenching instead of mixing in with their feed. Gave them 10oz each around 10:00am. Then around 1pm, fed as usual but they left around 1/2lb of feed. They normally clean up all their feed.  Going to see how they eat tonight and then drench afterwards??  Anyone have any suggestions?  Is 10oz too much to give at one time? Never done this before, so are we giving it at the wrong times?

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Fly control

With summer fast approaching, I was trying to be proactive and ask what do people use for fly control?  We have a small barn with sheep and I was wondering what I could use that would be safe?

I'm new at having lambs and trying to figure out how to look at them to see what they need?  Going to a show in 9 days and wondering if I should start a drench?  Found the recipe on this forum for the Gail Christian drench.  How can you tell if a lamb is finished or conditioned?  Heard that terminology but don't understand it.  Any resources available to study and learn? Any advice would be appreciated.
