Surely no one would be stupid enough to take a dirty lamb to any midwest fair this year. I guess only time will tell!

Great post Darren. I agree 100%! There is another site that will remove you if you bring this up. That is not the answer.

If the show industry wants PETA and other rights groups to shut them down just let things continue as they are currently. The 'do anything to win jocks' and the breeders and exhibitors that work with them are going to destroy from within.  I had cancer a couple years ago and it reminds me of this situation in that you cannot ignore it and hope it goes away. It will destroy you! I have loved this industry for a lot longer than most of you have been alive. Animals that are drugged and brought to shows need to be penalized the same as if you introduced them in to the food chain at the local market. I have been laughed at and ridiculed in the past when I have said that sooner or later the media was going to get involved. It has happened at too many big shows in a short span of time and there are no ways to put the Genie back in the bottle. Too many breeders want the 'super jocks' to have their lambs because they can make them winners and make them money. Exhibitors pay these jocks to help them win big banners and maybe make a little money. I am now and always have been passionate about this subject !

We would start 7-10 days before the showing.

We originally started with the OG egg drench. We switched from that to the Final Secret drench, which is now the egg drench powder sold by the Fitteroutpost in Tx. If you don't mind dragging a big cooler the original egg drench works great/ The others are a little easier to travel with. We used them with the wet feeding and found it really helped to keep the lambs on feed  at the shows and worked best for us because we weren't allowed to drench. Once the lambs get used to any of these products it is almost like they addicted. Really helped to keep the lambs fresh and looking their best without washing out the top under stress and heat. This along with a good electrolyte is the main things you should not be without in my opinion.

Crystal, I am in agreement with Shane on this one. The last few years we had the Dorsets our local vet used to give me a hard time about starving him to death. LOL I am pretty sure that you have plenty of good replacement ewe lambs to not keep a potential problem that can very easily turn into bigger problems. The iodine  works but it basically hides the problem instead of curing it. I'd take the market cash and run. JMHO

Once in a while you get one of those lambs that just want to push too hard.Have you tried working with him just getting legs in position and making him stand there? If you get him standing correctly for 15-20 minutes then start applying just a little pressure. Every lamb is different.

I hope a few of you have taken the plunge and built the box. Good luck and I hope I helped a little bit.

Crystal. we thought about that but I am afraid if the lamb can see out of the front of the box they may be more inclined to think the can get out and fight it more. We never had a problem with front legs once they got used to staying in one place.

We did 20 minutes daily. Some lambs came around in a few days. some longer. Refresher course  weekly. Spend time handling the lambs and keep the back legs set while they are in there. Like anything it takes time and commitmnet.
