All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Lost CIDR
« on: October 30, 2016, 06:25:40 am »
We have a ewe that lost her CIDR and I can't find it.  She was in a 5x15 pen with another ewe, so it is possible that the other ewe pulled it out, but I have checked the pen and can't find it.  Dogs have access to one 5ft side of the pen, so there is a slim chance that a dog got it out of the pen.  I have felt inside the ewe, as much as she will tolerate and don't feel anything.  I have been reading cattle forums about retained CIDRS and now I am concerned that it is in there and I can't find it.  Any suggestions?

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / LAI protocol
« on: August 03, 2016, 03:33:12 pm »
Will someone share their LAI protocol with me, and who recommended it to you?

We used a protocol last year, but the company doing our AI work is recommending a different one this year, I just want to see if there is one that is best or at least most often recommended.  Thanks

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Fitted Market Lambs
« on: May 27, 2016, 07:27:35 pm »
So it seems to have started with the "shag" craze, where the wool had crept higher and higher above the hocks and knees, now it appears to be the norm to leave wool on the belly.  What's next?  Are we headed back to the days of showing lambs with wool "britches"?  Will we be leaving more and more wool in the years to come or do you think the shows are going to start enforcing their written rules about being slick sheared above the hocks and knees.

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / May Jackpot shows in MO, KS, OK
« on: April 27, 2016, 11:03:41 am »
Looks like Arkansas isn't having many jackpot shows this year.  Thinking about traveling to surrounding states to check out their shows.  Anybody know of shows in southern Missouri, Southeast Kansas or Northwest Oklahoma in May - August?

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Antibiotics in 2016
« on: December 28, 2015, 10:05:33 pm »
I have attempted to have an open conversation with our vet regarding legal changes in antibiotic use as of Dec 2016.  He apparently found the conversation insulting and accusatory, so needless to say, I was unable to garner any real information.  Specifically how will it change my use of Auromycin use in our feed from Dec - March annually.  Will it change my ability to use drinking water base sulfa drugs to treat coccidiosis in groups of lambs.  Will each use of an antibiotic require a physical exam of the animal or will I still be able to keep antibiotics on hand.  Just wondering if anyone has been able to get concrete answers to these questions from your vets.
