All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / MWSRS Thoughts
« on: June 27, 2015, 04:31:08 pm »
Josh Robinson had 3 yearlings in his first comsignment, they looked very consistent and placed well, not sure how they sold but to get 6th yearling ewe in both odd and even classes for a first time flock was pretty impressive to me.

Williams having two rams one overall wether style champion and the otheone of these daysr champion Suffolk was pretty cool to see. Was no questions in my mind who had the ram with the most interest.

As always the Shroyer ewes looked great, I'm going to actually buy some.

I thought Ellerbrock sheep had the most thickness in their sheep I can recall.

Seemed like Ott sold much better than they placed.

I thought Slacks we're the most consistent set.

Clay Elliot's reserve was really hard not to bid more on, he wasn't quite the type I think I need this year. IMO  he was the best deal of the sale.

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Fungus prevention
« on: June 17, 2015, 04:40:42 am »
Shows are starting to kick.  It would be worthwhile to have discussion on fungus prevention.  If you show a market lamb and more than one show the chances are extremely high that you will get club lamb fungus if you don't do anything.  Even if you do have a good program the your lambs are still likely to eventually get it as it's hard to cover every lamb 100%.

Just a few thoughts.  Last I checked we had 127 members. For about 1 week I thinks that's indicative that the time was right.  Crystal has pinned some of the guidelines for posts.  It will be a shame if the forum resorts to a bunch of smearing that has happened on some other sites.  There is simply not going to be any tolerance for that type of post and they will get deleted as soon as they are detected if they start to appear.    Please try to word your posts the same as you would say something if you were on a panel in the front of a large room filled with sheep people, INCLUDING the person  you are discussing.  In reality, that is the context of your messages and if you wouldn't be willing to say something directly to someone please find a different venue for those thoughts.  Those people are likely going to read what you write first hand.

Show season is starting now and personally I'd like to see this board be a place where kids (and breeders) can share their successes.  So much time and effort is put into competing I think it's only fair that some recognition comes along with a victory.  Please also keep in mind how you'd like others to respond to your victories.  If you want people to congratulate you for your hard work, smart decisions and skill in feeding, showing and exercising a lamb please keep this in mind when you comment on others victories.  Showing livestock teaches many lessons.  One is how to win, however knowing what to do when you don't win is also important and the way a competition works they are way more of us and our kids that don't win the big one than do.  If  you want to be congratulated on the great job  you did when you win a show, don't respond to other's victories with comments such as, "Everybody in the crowd knows the judge was clueless, and "I saw that lamb 2 months ago, and the only way it could look like  that know is they must be doing _[some illegal act]"

Again, welcome to all that have joined.  I look forward to seeing many of your posts.
