Ewe marked with CIDR
« on: August 26, 2016, 11:59:50 am »
I implanted some ewe lambs with CIDRs and put them with the ram last night.  Today is the 2nd cycle for my mature ewes and I planned on pulling the CIDRs on the ewe lambs today.  A couple of them clearly got well marked by the rams overnight, while they still had CIDRs in them. As planned I pulled the CIDRs today.  So, I'm curious if any of you have had such ewes and if they breed from this mating or not.

Yes, had it happen on day 12 to a ewe.  I pulled it the next day when I saw the mark.  She got bred.

This year,my protocal  for ewes  for et and the recipts,  had cidrs replaced  on day 7.
The drug has declined enough  ,that it will not keep the ewe "in sync ", so needs to be replaced.
Some have had good luck , inserting  2 cidrs at day one.
And this  late in season, with weather we have had, ewes are cycleing  like crazy.
Also, if that ewe was in wrong stage if her estrus cycle at insertion,  it may not have done what it should have.
That being said, I pulled all my rams today.  No rams will be out for 14 days. New grandbaby due , Jan 21 , so will have a 2 week "hole " to make time for that event.
39 ewes sent to breeding pens . Had teaser ran with them for 14 days.
39 ewes marked to rams in the 14 days.
Also bred to Et.
Flush date is Tuesday. So any et babies will also be during this  2 week window.

Knock on wood ☺.Historical  data at my farm, has less than 2 percent of ewes, including ewe lambs, not "sticking " on first ram mating.
Next mating window will be Sept 10 to september 24.
Re expose current ewes, add another 12 bf and 1 dorset.
And will cidr some of the ewe lambs for breeding on the 20 th of  sept.
Then will take 14 days and send another  50 to the rams.
following with cidr ewe  lamb  to end breeding season.

Fall lambs start in 2 weeks.☺
