Leg wool
« on: May 07, 2017, 05:49:28 am »
We have some show sheep and we always end the year with something like dandruff in the leg wool.  I always thought it was from show sprays we use, but we have only washed twice and not sprayed the legs and we already have it starting.  It is round deposit of oily substance at the base of the hair.  Any idea how to stop this?  It might be from the pen?  Webbed in shavings?

I really have never noticed what you are describing. An oily substance sounds rather like lanolin but leg wool is usually pretty dry. Does the skin itself look healthy and is the wool staying good, not falling out? All I could suggest is to wash and condition well before you comb it out. The only spray we ever use in the leg wool is Pink Oil on show day.
