All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / The one that got away

I was sure tempted to put a bid in on Lot 2 in MacLennan's ewe lamb sale, but I knew my husband would kill me. I'd already spent my sheep budget for the year on our new Dorper flock. I guess it didn't matter anyway since I didn't have the extra thirteen grand laying around that it would have taken to get her bought. Beautiful sheep! http://www.dwlivestock.com/cgi-bin/mnlist.cgi?willoughby736/2

What sheep have you all been drooling over in these online sales?

Does Envirosep also treat, or just prevent fungus? It's actually on our cow, not a sheep, but figure the same treatment should work for both...

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Lambing update
« on: February 22, 2016, 08:40:50 pm »
Our last ewe for a while just lambed. A big ExGames ewe lamb out of a Maximus yearling. We will hopefully have a few more later in the spring, but we will have a bit of a break for now. We struggled through some abortion issues, which we hopefully have under control now, and ended up with almost all singles births, so our crop is smaller than we had hoped, but the quality is making up for what we missed in quantity. We ended up with an even 15 rams and 15 ewes. However, things are not so even when you compare the sires. From ExGames we got 13 ewes and just 4 rams. Maximus was the opposite, giving us 11 rams and just 2 ewes. Interestingly, he was the other way around last year, siring nearly all ewes and only 4 rams.

Results of a pretty tough class of ewe lambs, where there was very little agreement by anyone who placed the class, are now posted. A big thanks to Duane Sickels for taking a stab at it. I think he aligned it pretty well and backed up his placings with some good, sound reasons.

I think most will find this class of prospects a little easier to sort. Submit your placings and keep those entries coming!

Results of the last heavyweight prospect class are posted, as is a new class of young ewe lambs. Check them out!

Also, I need to fill a lot of classes, so be sure to enter those lambs as you are getting pictures of your new crop! Prospects, ewe lambs, ram lambs, we can use them all! Good luck!

It's finally been a good, wet winter and the pens were a MESS. We got my foster daughter's lamb picked out and penned up yesterday, but his leg wool is matted in dried mud and manure. Are there any tricks, other than just soap and water, for getting this out without pulling out all the wool? I'm thinking about trying to stand him five gallon buckets and let them soak, but not sure how well that would go over with the lamb!

Lots more babies, these are just a couple of the older lambs so far.

This is a proven cross, with have dogs from this breeding guarding sheep in Texas, Nevada, California and Oregon. Both parents are full time sheep guardian. Puppies will be born and raised in the sheep barn. We expect both short and long haired puppies in this litter.
