All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Top Dress
« on: June 06, 2016, 05:44:47 am »
Just wondering what everyone's intake on top dresses are? We have a lamb that will be showed at the end of July, the lamb is about 115 now. I know we have time, but the lamb is going to need more cover. Thinking about getting a top dress to add more bloom. Any suggestions on a good top dress to use?

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Sore Mouth - Lamb Not Eating
« on: May 18, 2016, 07:38:58 am »
One of our lamb customers contacted us recently saying that their lamb has sore mouth. We have dealt with sore mouth a few times in the past. I know you you pretty much have to let it runs its course, but the lamb isn't eating so is there any suggestions of what they can do.

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Club Lamb Prices
« on: April 08, 2016, 06:37:13 am »
Is $200-$350 a decent price for club lambs? This is typically our price range and we have a few buyers who feels these prices are too high. Our lambs have won Grand & Reserve at our local fair and placed well at other fairs in our surrounding area. We make sure the lambs are vaccinated and wormed before they leave our farm. We clip the lambs and offer any help that we can. Our website and facebook page has our ram info. Please feel free to take a look at both our website and facebook page http://www.stonestreetclublambs.com/ and https://www.facebook.com/Stonestreet-Club-Lambs-223532481010046/ A few breeders have told us we are actually charging less than what we should be. Any intake on this matter would be great. Thanks.

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Ram Lamb
« on: September 07, 2015, 03:46:29 pm »
We have a ram lamb that's been in with 10 ewes since around the 1st of August. He started breeding the ewes around the middle of August. He has remarked about 4 out of the 10 ewes. The one ewe was marked on 8/12/15 then again on 9/7/15, which would be 22 days. I'm not real sure that the mark on 8/12/15 was accurate. Remarking 4 out of 10 ewes so far, would that be considered normal for a ram lamb? May be we are just being paranoid with this. Any thoughts on this would be helpful.

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Ewe Weak In Back End
« on: August 26, 2015, 05:56:02 am »
We have a ewe that is somewhat weak in her back end. We thought it was her feet, so we made sure they were trimmed and ok. She walks fine at times, then other times she walks like her back end is weak, its hard to explain. She is around 5 years old and did have trouble lambing this past January, not sure if that created an issue or not. She had seemed fine until we turned her in with the ram early in the month. Any ideas?

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / 4-H Livestock Club Meeting Activities
« on: August 17, 2015, 06:38:35 am »
I help with the meetings for the one of local 4-H livestock clubs and we need ideas for meeting activities. We always try to do something with livestock to teach and help the kids with their projects, but we are running out of ideas. I have contacted the local 4-H extension office, but they have really been no help. Any suggestions would be great and helpful. We just need to get the kids more involved.

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Ram with swollen leg
« on: July 05, 2015, 06:00:35 pm »
We have a ram that has a swollen rear leg. The leg is swollen right above the hoof. He is in a small pen by himself. We aren't sure if he injured himself in some way. We have checked him over and can't find any wounds. Any thoughts on what this could be?

I was just wondering if it would be ok to deworm a ram lamb before breeding season, which would start August 1.
