All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / CIDR protocol for live cover
« on: August 03, 2018, 09:28:30 am »
I was trying to search old messages (I'm not that savvy with these forums).  I think this was covered last year and maybe Don said he had good luck with a 5 day pull?  Just wanting to compare what you all do as far how long you leave CIDRs before you pull them for live cover.

Buy and Sell / Valor son for sale
« on: December 26, 2015, 08:16:40 pm »
For sale: Coming yearling ram lamb out of Valor (Maximus x Jam). This ram is extremely attractive from the side plus he handles with exceptional shape to his top. If you're looking for a ram to make nice patterned, muscular show sheep that have enough shag,  he is the ram for you! Call or text Zac at 719-505-2583 if you have any questions.

We will see how it goes.  We pulled yesterday, take them tomorrow for their big day.  Like I mentioned, this is all new to me.  I have never used cidrs let alone AI.  Only doing a few ewes this time.  My friends had 100% success with this same breeder and protocol last year so I am hoping to emulate those numbers. I just wasnt sure about the PG600 because they were not very exact, just gave us that range......

Don, I really dont have any idea what is driving the 16 day pull, its just what this breeder/LAI service said to do.  I am  following their protocol.

Karin, do you give the full 5 ml? If so, do you see a higher than normal incidence of triplets and such?  We are doing a 16 day pull btw.

Trying LAI for the first time, any advice on dosing PG600.  Both for ewe lambs and aged ewes.  Everything I read ranges from 2.5 to 5 cc per head but that seems like a wide range?  What do some of you all do that AI?

Problem is not only with things that test, but with unethical fitting and injections of "naturally ocurring" substances, as was the case a few years back at Denver.  While carcasses (I think 17 out of 35 sale qualifiers) were found with all kinds of injection sites all down their topline,  nothing tested.  Not to worry, everyone still signs the "ethical treatment of animals" paperwork anyway, still should be kicked out, no questions asked, jmo.

We had similar situation for our fair, load in on Monday by noon, but our sheep show was Wednesday afternoon.  We would shear them all with super surgicals Sunday, that seemed just right.  Keep them conditioned really well.  Love Revive for that.  I don't think you will be disappointed with the Stars for little hands.
