All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Starmaster Star Glo
« on: July 27, 2017, 06:06:44 pm »
Anyone use Star Glo?  Someone suggested it to burn some of the fat on one of our lambs but we have never used it.  We are 27 days till show.  Is this too late?  Suggestion please and thank you.

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Show ring attire
« on: March 16, 2017, 05:42:45 pm »
So there was some discussion with our club about show attire.  Our club has always dressed exactly alike in the same color Polo with the club logo.  This is how they have done it since the 70's.  Everyone else in the county dresses in button downs and "show clothes".  No other club dresses the same.  Some kids want to change it but are getting some who say no.  What are your thoughts on show attire?

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Docking tails
« on: February 19, 2017, 10:34:27 am »
So last year it seemed like we didn't get a few of our lambs' tails docked short enough.  Not sure if the bands slipped or if we just aren't putting them short enough.  Can I get any tips on Docking in regards to placement of the band?  We do not have any rules on the length of the tail in our state.  Thanks!!

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Fair carcass lamb judging
« on: November 15, 2016, 03:27:47 pm »
Anyone out there know the guidelines used for judging carcass lambs? Last year's judge was disappointing to say the least and we are trying to find a judge for this year.  Any knowledge out there?

No way.  I hope a good judge can look past it and we will chalk it up as a lesson learned.

Thanks!

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Docked tail too long?

So, we have a lamb whose tail is not docked short enough.  It is not too long according to rules, just what seems to be "the trend".  Not sure what happened, but it is just a bit too long.  Is there anything that can be done now or just chalk it up as a lesson learned? (Lamb born 2/10/16)

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Overeating on a milk bar?
« on: February 20, 2016, 11:57:43 am »
So we have 2 bottle lambs and we decided to try a milk bar this year.  We just got it set up and I am so nervous they will overeat.  How do we keep them from overeating?

We finally started this morning.  Had a set of twins - a ram and a ewe.  Look good so far.

Ok, so it is too late this year, but if your fair is late August, when would you put your ram out with your ewes and when is the ideal lambing time.  There was a calendar on the old site, but it is no longer available.  So, what are your opinions?

Our ewes look close (supposed to be in the next week), but I am nervous that the timing isn't right for our late August fair

Thoughts?

Sounds good so far!  We had 2 broken legs last year. Our son ended up showing one of them and won his class and 6th overall with that lamb.  No lambs yet for us.  We have about a week left.  Excited for them to get started.   :)

All Sheep and Lamb Discussion / Re: Colostrum replacer
« on: January 02, 2016, 09:52:13 am »
One more quick question:
Last year 2 of our ewes had REALLY thick colostrum.  So thick we had to milk it out of her until it became thin enough for the lamb to get any on its own.  Any ideas why it was so thick?  Do you think the ewe is lacking something?

Thank you all for the replies.   Last year we had some frozen from a ewe that lost her lambs at birth the previous year.  None for this year, so powdered it is.

Thanks again!!
