Function of 4-way
« on: February 25, 2016, 04:58:20 pm »
I am wondering if any of you use 4-way (corn, oats, barley, and molasses) when pulling your lambs for a market show.  I know some who substitute 4-way for a portion of the lamb's feed, but I'm not sure what the "science" behind it is.  Any info/opinions are appreciated.  Thanks.

Anytime you add 4-way or we call wet COB to a lambs diet it will decrease the nutritional value of the showfeed, but I would think the reason behind feeding after a show and you are done showing is either your saving money or keeping the lamb for breeding project if that's the case I think I would still keep the ewe on a good ration for at least 8 months, COB is a good feed but it isn't always equal parts of grain because if one of the feed is cheaper than it might have more of that type in it. I have fed it before to my ewes before and after lambing now I just use whole corn, when I can.
