Using Cow's milk

The vets at the Ontario Conference strongly suggested to make sure that the milk from cows is free of Johnes Disease as sheep can obtain this problem.

My mentor when I was first starting out in sheep got Johnes in her flock. She ended up depopulating a large portion of her flock to eradicate it. Did they say that milk replacer is a potential source or something? When else would sheep be fed cow's milk? I guess maybe show lambs via some if the drenched, but any recipe I have seen uses either canned evaporated milk or powdered milk. I am assuming pasteurization would kill the bacteria?

The vet from England never mentioned anything about milk replacer.
