Feeding ewe lambs to lamb as yearlings
« on: January 12, 2017, 09:24:11 am »
How much do you feed your bred ewe lambs? I know it is a balance to get as much growth of the ewe lambs but not excessively big baby lambs. I've been feeding 1 lb 12% commercial sheep feed twice a day with all the good quality grass hay they want .

Your way short on protein and likely high on energy. 2 lbs of 16 percent grain mix along with  the hay, will likely be a better match. High energy is likely to do more damage. Fat ewe, fat baby, fat liver. = possible ketosis, weak ,stupid lamb .

Our ewe lambs do best on 14% protein 2-2.5 lbs per day of grain & free choice alfalfa.
