I have to brag. We had a great Plumas-Sierra County Fair!

Case's third overall and champion bred and fed market lamb. Sired by Maximus

Case's supreme champion ewe. Sired by Maximus

Justus's reserve supreme ewe. Sired by ExGames

Case's supreme champion ram. Sired by ExGames

Our foster daughter's champion yearling ewe. Sired by Commotion

And best of all, Case won the Shepherd Award buckle for top exhibitor overall!

Case placed second in showmanship and our foster daughter placed third. She also won her lightweight market class and got fifth overall.

Now share your successes!

I'll share one.  We just wrapped up our county fair on Monday and we accomplished one of my goals.  We live and show in a competitive county that has a lot of Allen Johnson, Fred Johnson, Stitzlein, Amstutz, Shellhouse, Achor, and Sloan lambs in it.  We not only had Champion Lamb but it is one we bred and raised ourselves.  We not only bred him but we bred and raised his daddy as well.  Having been bred, born, and raised in our county made him the BBR champion and a BBR champ has not won overall champ in modern history (at least during my lifetime).  It sure is fun to be able to hang with the big boys.  On top of that, the kids had Res. Champ BBR, the open fair champion with a different lamb, a crossbred class winner, champion southdown lamb, oldest son was supreme showman overall, and son 2# was the intermediate showmanship winner.  It really was a great fair and we were blessed to do so well.

Nice lambs, Pete!

We sold all these lambs to first year members of the Ophir 4-H group and they were shown at the Gold Country Fair. They fed their lambs well (maybe a bit too well!), but the managed to all make it into the champion round anyway with a class winner and two class seconds. They also won reserve champion pen of 3 and third spring ewe lamb. Not bad for a group of all first year members!

Lambs were sired by ExGames and Duramaxx

Those lambs look pretty nice. A track and dog and a little feed management and they would be really good.  :)

I wanted to show the ewe families for our winners. If you notice they all come from the same foundation ewe. Tony Winfrey was not happy she sold for the opening bid on his first online sale. She was a great momma and had a great temperament. We lost her lambing in 2011. As an adult I have only cried over losing a sheep twice. She was the one of them. Two days later a granddaughter won the Jefferson County Livestock show with Mr. Christian judging. The good thing is that she has lambs from her ewe family winning classes in three states for four different breeders.

Our first Cow Palace Grand National was a success! Case won third with a beautiful ewe lamb we purchased from Pagliaro-Bohan Club Lambs and seventh pair of ewe lambs in a huge class. But sweetest of all was winning a class with a home-bred ExGames X Comstock ewe lamb. I wasn't sure what to do with this ewe when she was born. She was only half the size of her sister when she was born and stayed that way all the way through weaning. She was as close to ground pounder as I had ever seen. But I just loved her design so decided to keep her and see what she turned into. I'm sure glad I did! She was so fuzzy, the kids named her Wicket after the Ewok. She was a late bloomer, but I just love her more and more everyday. I was so proud of Case, his first year showing. He's got such an amazing work ethic for only nine years old and he's so cool and collected in the ring, that Frank started calling him Ice Man!

Congratulations!  My daughter was running the sheep show and said Case was adorable and never stopped working!  Very happy for your success!

As the 2016 show season gets well underway, I just wanted to remind everyone to share their success!

We've had a good start to the season so far.

One of our Duramaxx lambs won reserve at the inaugural High Rollers Jackpot in Fallon, NV.

Case won Supreme Champion Ram with a Maximus son at the Nevada Junior Livestock Show in Reno, NV.

He also won his market class with an ExGames lamb and got third in a very large showmanship class.

Our foster daughter (we'll be able share her name and show her face when she's finally adopted!) won second to the grand champion and got Champion Owner Bred with her Duramaxx lamb.

We had consigned this ewe lamb to Sedalia but when I couldn't go we offered to a young man that had planned to buy a different ewe.  He didn't do so well in the 4-H competition when he entered her as a market lamb and she had to compete against lambs that were well into their exercise program and she was just pulled out of the feedlot.  However, in the commercial ewe open class division the judge though she was just what he was looking for and he made her champion commercial ewe at the 2016 Cannon Valley Open Class sheep show.
